B.G.E. customer Crown Property receives National Award for Clean Indoor Environment
To recognize commitment in providing quality air filtration while maintaining a clean indoor work environment, the National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) awarded Crown Property Management Inc. with the 2010 NAFA Clean Air Award for 360 Main Street. The downtown building was one of a select few across North America to receive such recognition, and the second BOMA BESt certified building in Manitoba to win the award.
"Crown is honoured to be recognized with the NAFA Clean Air Award," said Dwight Picklyk, Operations Manager for Crown Property, "Having a high standard of indoor air quality not only reduces cleaning costs, but results in a healthier work environment for all tenants."
Diane Price, Account Manager at B.G.E., The Filter Shop, nominated Crown Property for its continued commitment to offer tenants the best possible air quality, and commended the team for their achievement. "We are very proud that 360 Main is the second building in Manitoba to receive the NAFA Clean Air Award," said Price.
Both Picklyk and Chief Engineer Mike Pate worked with Price to identify quality filtration opportunities. Between 2008 and 2010, Crown Property undertook the following retrofits:
- New Filter bank in Unit OA1
- High efficiency Varicel M-Pak MERV 14 filters, and used reusable frames with the B.G.E. Red-C MERV 8 pre-filter media. The new pre-filters have a much higher dust holding capacity than a similar size and rated pleated panel filter, reducing Crown Property's carbon footprint
- Low pressure drop MERV 15 Varicel VXL High Efficiency Final Filters
In some cases, this information has helped Crown Property retain and renew lease agreements with some of their current tenants, and to attract new ones.
"Providing our tenants with the best indoor air quality has always been a priority," says Picklyk. And Crown's commitment to providing a clean indoor environment has helped in marketing the building to both new and potential tenants.

NAFA initiated the Clean Air Award in 1995 to recognize the efforts of facility managers and building owners who go above the "recommended minimums" and put into place "best practice" maintenance across North America. The award is judged and presented by NAFA to hold and maintain buildings to a higher standard for occupant safety, health, and productivity.
